Boons are permanent character bonuses that can be obtained by progressing through campaigns. They were originally introduced with Module 1: Fury of the Feywild, and received a significant with Module 16: Undermountain. Boons function as permanent passive bonuses, and the player can choose to spend their Boon Points as they see fit.
There are five tiers of boons, along with a special Master Tier.
The first tier is automatically unlocked upon character creation, and features 6 options.
The second tier is unlocked upon spending 10 Boon Points on lower tiers, and features 7 options.
The third tier is unlocked upon spending 20 Boon Points on lower tiers, and features 7 options.
The fourth tier is unlocked upon spending 30 Boon Points on lower tiers, and features 7 options.
The fifth tier is unlocked upon spending 45 Boon Points on lower tiers, and features 7 options. The character is only allowed to put points into 2 fifth tier boons at a time Since Mod27 we are able to have more boons from this Tier but on raising cost!, and these boons can only have up to 4 Boon Points each.
The Master Tier is unique, as boons in this tier do not require Boon Points to unlock. Instead, the character unlocks a special Master Boon Point after spending a certain number of Boon Points on boons in the other five tiers. The character is only allowed to have one of these boons active at a given time, and will unlock the maximum 3 Master Boon Points upon spending 60 regular Boon Points. Since Mod27 we are able to have more boons from this Tier but on raising cost!
Spent Boon Points can be reset with a Retraining Token.
Being in a level 20 guild is a huge advantage : not only that means people to play with and help you, but you will also have access to 3 Guild Boons at their maximum power. Together, these will give you up to 3000 Item Level (which is a very good boost in Damage and HP early on, and also helpful to unlock access to dungeons and campaigns later on). Guilds can also offer 1 PVP boon (which doesn't improve item level). You can select a single boon in each category (Offense, Defense, Utility, and PVP) and change it at will with no need for a retrain token. As a guild can only have 4 out of the 9 buildings for boons (which are the Barracks, the Explorers' Guild, the Mercenary Outpost, the Stable, the Training Yard, the Wizard's Workshop, the Temple, and the PVP buildings : Siege Workshop and Siege Smithy), you will not have access to all of the boons.
